We’re so sorry to say goodbye to our longtime nonfiction editor, Berry Grass, whose championing of brave, experimental writing and underrepresented voices has helped establish an editorial ethic that we intend to carry on as Berry moves forward, both in writing and in life.

Telegraphing the queer and trans experience with fierce intelligence, Berry is the author most recently of Hall of Waters, a collection of lyric essays and memoir that works to demythologize the rural American Midwest while showcasing the best of a sensibility that we will truly miss here. Throughout their many years as part of our staff, Berry deepened Sundog’s commitment to work that stuns on an aesthetic level and awakens us on a personal one.

As we wade deeper into these uncertain times together, we’ll continue to draw inspiration from Berry’s vision while shaping future issues.
